Description
Slow Release Caffeine
built for the long run
Most caffeine hits in 30 minutes and is fading by the time your race gets hard. SCN™ Pre-Endurance Caffeine uses patented NewCaff™ lipid microcapsules to deliver caffeine gradually, so one capsule works for up to 4 hours. Stable energy. Steady focus. No spike, no slump.
Caffeine that lasts as long as your race
Marathons, triathlons, gran fondos, ultras. Take it once before the start and it keeps working through the hours when fatigue usually wins.
Steady output, no mid-ride crash
A slow, flat caffeine curve means consistent power and focus, with far fewer gels or caffeinated drinks to carry.
All-morning concentration from one capsule
Long shifts, exams, deep work. Sustained alertness without the jitters, the afternoon dip or four cups of coffee.
Why slow release caffeine changes everything for endurance
Caffeine is the most researched legal performance aid in sport. The problem was never whether it works. The problem is timing. Coffee, tablets, gels and anhydrous caffeine are absorbed almost completely within 30–60 minutes, peak quickly and then decline. For a 60-minute workout that is fine. For a 3, 4 or 5-hour event, your caffeine peaks when you least need it and fades exactly when the race gets hard.
SCN™ Pre-Endurance Caffeine solves this with NewCaff™ microcapsules: caffeine crystals sealed inside a food-grade lipid coating that dissolves progressively through the digestive tract. Instead of one sharp peak, you get a smooth, sustained release of caffeine into the bloodstream for up to 4 hours (about 250 minutes).
Illustrative release profile based on NewCaff™-75 in vitro dissolution data (Health Canada DO-25 method). Individual response varies with body weight, genetics and habitual intake.
All the benefits of caffeine…
- Longer time to exhaustion in endurance exercise
- Lower perceived effort (RPE): hard efforts feel easier
- Faster reaction time and sharper focus
- Supports strength, power and sprint performance
- Helps maintain intensity late in long events
- Increased alertness and concentration for work and study
…with the negatives dialled down
Most caffeine side effects come from the spike: a large amount of caffeine arriving in the blood at once. A slow, stable release is designed to significantly reduce them:
- Jitters, anxiety and nervousness
- Racing heart and over-arousal
- Stomach upset from concentrated caffeine
- Shaky hands and loss of fine motor control
- The energy crash when fast caffeine wears off
- Repeated re-dosing (and the sleep disruption that comes with it)
NewCaff™ microencapsulation: the technology inside every capsule
NewCaff™ is a patented caffeine delivery system developed by Lipofoods (a Lubrizol company, Barcelona). Pure anhydrous caffeine is coated using a lipid hot-melt fluid-bed process, producing round microcapsules with an insulating lipid shell. In digestion, the shell breaks down gradually rather than all at once, so caffeine release is controlled and prolonged, giving an improved sustained-release profile compared to raw caffeine. The coating also neutralises caffeine’s bitterness, which is why the formula needs no sweeteners, flavours or masking agents.
SCN™ uses NewCaff™-75, the higher-concentration grade (75% caffeine), delivering 225 mg of true caffeine from 300 mg of microcapsules per capsule. No proprietary blend, no hidden stimulants. Just one ingredient, engineered to work for hours.

How to use
- Endurance training & racing: 1–2 capsules with 250 ml water 30–45 minutes before the start
- Long events (4 h+): 1 capsule before the start, a second around hour 3 if needed
- Work, study, focus: 1 capsule in the morning
- Sleep protection: because release lasts 4 hours, avoid taking it within 8–10 hours of bedtime
Find your dose
Research consistently shows performance benefits at around 3 mg of caffeine per kg of body weight, with no extra benefit above ~6 mg/kg.
| Body weight | Suggested dose | Caffeine |
|---|---|---|
| 55–75 kg | 1 capsule | 225 mg (3–4 mg/kg) |
| 75–95 kg | 1 capsule (2 for key races) | 225–450 mg |
| Caffeine-sensitive / new users | Start with 1 capsule | 225 mg |
Do not exceed 2 capsules per day. Count other caffeine sources (coffee, gels, energy drinks) towards your total. Healthy adults are advised to stay under 400 mg caffeine per day.
What the research says
Caffeine’s performance effect is one of the best-supported findings in sports science. Here is the evidence behind the ingredient, and behind the slow release format.
Slow release caffeine vs. everything else
| Caffeine source | Onset | Duration | Mid-race re-dosing | Sugar / additives |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SCN™ Pre-Endurance Caffeine (NewCaff™) | Gradual, 30 min | Up to 4 hours | Rarely needed | None |
| Caffeine gels | 15–30 min | 60–90 min | Every 45–60 min | Sugar, flavours, acids |
| Anhydrous caffeine tablets | 30 min | 1–2 hours (sharp peak) | Every 90 min | None |
| Energy drinks | 20–30 min | 60–90 min | Every hour, plus liquid load | Sugar or sweeteners, taurine, colours |
| Coffee | 30–45 min | 1–2 hours | Impractical | Variable dose, GI issues |

Frequently asked questions
How long does slow release caffeine last?
NewCaff™ microcapsules are designed to release caffeine progressively for up to 4 hours (about 250 minutes), compared with 1–2 hours of noticeable effect from coffee or caffeine tablets.
Will I feel it kick in?
You will notice a smoother onset than regular caffeine: alertness builds gradually over 30–60 minutes rather than arriving as a jolt. This is the point. Less spike means fewer side effects and a longer working window.
Can I use it for a marathon or Ironman?
Yes, that is exactly what it was designed for. Take 1 capsule 30–45 minutes before the start. For events beyond 4 hours, a second capsule around hour 3 extends coverage into the final stages.
Is it safe to combine with gels or coffee?
Count all sources towards your daily total. One capsule provides 225 mg of caffeine. Healthy adults are generally advised to stay below 400 mg per day, and not exceed 200 mg in a single dose unless accustomed to it.
Will it affect my sleep?
Because release is prolonged, take it earlier than you would regular caffeine. Avoid using it within 8–10 hours of bedtime.
Is it vegan and doping-free?
Yes. The capsule is a plant-based Vcaps® (HPMC) shell and the product contains no animal-derived ingredients. All SCN™ products are manufactured under doping-free, cross-contamination-safe conditions.
One capsule. Four hours. The whole race.
Stop timing gels and chasing the next caffeine hit. SCN™ Pre-Endurance Caffeine gives endurance athletes what fast caffeine never could: stable, lasting energy from start to finish.
