BioPerine® Benefits: How Piperine Multiplies the Absorption of Every Other Ingredient

A supplement is only as good as what you absorb. BioPerine® is the patented piperine extract clinically shown to multiply the uptake of polyphenols, minerals and vitamins — which is why it sits in almost every SCN™ formula.

You can put 166 mg of EGCG, 237 mg of berberine and 142 mg of proanthocyanidins into a sachet and still deliver very little to the bloodstream. Polyphenols are notoriously poorly absorbed: they are metabolised by gut-wall and liver enzymes (glucuronidation, sulfation, CYP3A4) and pumped back into the gut by P-glycoprotein before they ever reach circulation. Piperina, the pungent alkaloid of black pepper, inhibits exactly those systems.

BioPerine® (Sabinsa) is a patented black-pepper extract standardised to not less than 95% piperine, with human clinical studies demonstrating increased absorption of curcumin (by 2,000% with just 20 mg piperine), coenzyme Q10, beta-carotene, selenium, vitamin B6 and others. Piperine has also been shown to raise plasma EGCG and slow its clearance — directly relevant to the green tea in a fat burner. Beyond bioavailability, piperine has mild thermogenic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of its own.

Carni-Lipolysis Active¹² contains 15 mg BioPerine® (14.25 mg piperine) per sachet — 28.5 mg piperine at the daily dose — to make sure the other eleven ingredients actually arrive.

Eleven actives, fully absorbed.

BioPerine® is the twelfth ingredient in Carni-Lipolysis Active¹² — and the reason the other eleven work.

How does BioPerine® piperine work? The mechanism explained

Inhibition of first-pass metabolism

Piperine inhibits UDP-glucuronosyltransferase and sulfotransferase in the intestinal wall and liver and inhibits CYP3A4 — the enzymes that deactivate polyphenols like EGCG, curcumin and berberine before they reach systemic circulation. Less deactivation, more active compound in blood.

P-glycoprotein inhibition

P-glycoprotein is the efflux pump that pushes absorbed compounds back into the gut lumen. Piperine inhibits it, increasing net absorption of many nutrients and botanicals.

Increased gut blood flow and absorptive surface

Piperine stimulates thermogenic activity in the gut, increases splanchnic blood flow and has been reported to increase microvilli length, enhancing the absorptive surface.

Own metabolic activity

Piperine activates TRPV1 (like capsaicinoids) producing mild thermogenesis, inhibits fat-cell formation in experimental models and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

What are the sports performance benefits of BioPerine® piperine?

For athletes, BioPerine® is the difference between a formula that reads well and one that works — and it adds a little metabolic activity of its own.

1. Does BioPerine® make a fat burner more effective?

Yes — by raising plasma levels of EGCG, curcumin-type polyphenols, berberine and other poorly absorbed actives. In the curcumin study, 20 mg piperine raised bioavailability 20-fold.

2. Does piperine increase green tea EGCG absorption?

Piperine increased EGCG plasma concentration and slowed its elimination in controlled studies (Lambert 2004), and improved EGCG permeability in intestinal cell models.

3. Does BioPerine® improve mineral absorption for athletes?

Sabinsa’s trials showed increased absorption of selenium (~30%), beta-carotene (~60%) and vitamin B6 (~140–250%) — nutrients endurance athletes deplete.

4. Does piperine have a thermogenic effect?

Mild — via TRPV1 activation, similar to capsaicinoids, adding a small increase in energy expenditure without stimulant effects.

5. Does BioPerine® enhance CoQ10 and antioxidant uptake?

Piperine increased plasma CoQ10 by about 30% in a 3-week trial — relevant to the mitochondrial antioxidant stack many endurance athletes use.

6. Does piperine help with recovery?

Piperine’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity, plus enhanced absorption of curcumin and OPCs, supports recovery formulas — which is why BioPerine® is also in SCN™’s Relief Herbal and Pro Endurance Recovery.

7. Does BioPerine® affect hydration or digestion?

At supplemental doses it supports digestive enzyme secretion and gut motility without irritation.

8. Is piperine safe with intense training?

Yes. The 5–30 mg doses used in supplements are far below any level of concern; piperine has been consumed in pepper for millennia.

Don’t pay for ingredients you don’t absorb.

Carni-Lipolysis Active¹² includes BioPerine® so every milligram of EGCG, berberine and OPC counts.

What are the health benefits of BioPerine® piperine?

Piperine’s health research covers absorption, metabolism, inflammation and brain function.

1. Does BioPerine® improve nutrient absorption?

Yes — this is its defining, clinically demonstrated action across curcumin, CoQ10, vitamins and minerals.

2. Does piperine support fat metabolism?

Piperine reduces fat-cell formation and lipid accumulation in experimental models and has mild thermogenic activity; its main contribution to fat loss is amplifying the actives it is combined with.

3. Does piperine have antioxidant effects?

Yes — it scavenges free radicals and protects against lipid peroxidation.

4. Does piperine support healthy inflammation response?

Piperine modulates inflammatory signalling and enhances the absorption of anti-inflammatory botanicals such as curcumin and boswellia.

5. Does BioPerine® support brain function?

Piperine supports healthy neurotransmitter levels and has shown cognitive and mood-supportive effects in experimental studies; it also increases absorption of brain-active polyphenols.

6. Does piperine support digestion?

It stimulates digestive enzymes, supports gastric emptying and has traditional use as a digestive in Ayurveda.

7. Does piperine support normal blood sugar?

By enhancing absorption of berberine, cinnamon polyphenols and OPCs, and through its own insulin-sensitising effects in models, piperine supports the glucose-handling complex.

8. Is piperine safe daily?

Yes at 5–30 mg/day. Because it inhibits drug-metabolising enzymes, people on medication with a narrow therapeutic window should consult their doctor.

BioPerine® piperine for endurance athletes: who benefits most?

Runners

High mileage increases nutrient needs and oxidative stress. BioPerine® ensures the antioxidants and polyphenols you take are actually absorbed — more protection per sachet.

Cyclists

A fat burner is only as strong as its weakest absorption step. BioPerine® raises EGCG and berberine levels so the fat-oxidation benefits reach your muscles on the bike.

Triathletes

Triathletes consume more supplements than most athletes. Piperine’s absorption-enhancing effect gets more out of every one, especially minerals and polyphenols.

Swimmers

Chlorine, early mornings and heavy volume deplete antioxidants. BioPerine® boosts uptake of OPCs, EGCG and CoQ10 to help the body keep pace.

Marathon runners

Months of training on a deficit demand nutrient efficiency. BioPerine® in Carni-Lipolysis Active¹² makes the formula’s polyphenols and minerals count — stimulant-free.

Absorption is the first benefit. Everything else follows.

Carni-Lipolysis Active¹²: BioPerine® plus eleven clinically studied fat-metabolism actives per sachet.

How much BioPerine® piperine do you need, and when should you take it?

Clinical studies used 5–20 mg piperine with the target nutrient; 20 mg produced the 2,000% curcumin increase. Piperine is effective within 30–60 minutes and lasts several hours.

Carni-Lipolysis Active¹² provides 15 mg BioPerine® (14.25 mg piperine) per sachet — 28.5 mg at the daily dose — taken simultaneously with the EGCG, berberine, OPC and cinnamon it is there to enhance.

Piperine is safe and well tolerated. Because it slows the metabolism of some medications, consult your doctor if you take drugs with a narrow therapeutic window (e.g. certain anticoagulants, anti-epileptics or immunosuppressants).
