1. FORTIGEL® Bioactive Collagen Peptides® GELITA AG, Germany · porcine hydrolyzed collagen

Collagen is the body’s most abundant protein — about 30% of total body protein — and roughly 70% of cartilage mass. FORTIGEL® is not generic collagen. It is a specific fingerprint of optimized collagen peptides developed by GELITA to be absorbed intestinally, accumulate in cartilage, and directly stimulate the metabolism of the chondrocytes — the cells that build and maintain cartilage.
Bioactive Collagen Peptides® act on the extracellular matrix through two mechanisms: they stimulate cell metabolism, and they supply the typical collagen amino acids (glycine, proline, hydroxyproline) as building blocks. FORTIGEL® has been tested in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials at Penn State University, Tufts Medical Center and the University of Freiburg — summarised in the science section below.

2. Glucosamine Sulphate 2KCl marine origin

Glucosamine is an amino sugar naturally found in healthy cartilage and a precursor to the glycosaminoglycans that give cartilage its structure and water-holding capacity. The sulphate form stabilised with potassium chloride (2KCl) is the most studied form in the joint literature. Glucosamine helps protect chondrocytes, the cells that maintain cartilage, and is traditionally paired with chondroitin for complementary action.
3. Chondroitin Sulphate 90% marine origin

Chondroitin sulphate is a major structural component of cartilage. It attracts water into the cartilage matrix, helping it stay elastic, resilient and shock-absorbing, and supports the cartilage-protecting activity of glucosamine. The 90% standardised grade used in Active⁷ Joint is a high-purity form, not a low-grade “cartilage powder”.
4. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) organic sulphur

MSM is a naturally occurring sulphur compound found in plants, animals and humans. Sulphur is essential for the cross-links that give collagen, cartilage and connective tissue their strength. Research on MSM supports its role in joint comfort and flexibility, in supporting the body’s antioxidant systems (including glutathione levels), in post-exercise recovery by helping limit exercise-induced muscle damage and oxidative stress, and in healthy skin through its contribution to keratin.

Ordinary turmeric extract is poorly soluble and poorly absorbed. Cursol® is a patented curcumin formulation using food-grade emulsifiers and a controlled drying process that preserves the active principle and significantly increases its assimilation. 6. Hyaluronic Acid as Sodium Hyaluronate

Hyaluronic acid is the key molecule of synovial fluid — the body’s own joint lubricant. One gram can bind up to six litres of water, which is what lets it cushion, hydrate and reduce friction between joint surfaces. It is also found in cartilage, intervertebral discs, skin and the fascia that wraps every muscle. Supplementing hyaluronic acid supports the density and lubricating quality of synovial fluid, especially in joints under repeated load such as the knees.
7. Vitamin C L-ascorbic acid

Vitamin C is the essential co-factor for the enzymes that build collagen. Without it, the body cannot convert the collagen peptides and amino acids in this formula into new cartilage, tendon and ligament tissue. The science behind FORTIGEL® — four human trials

Joint comfort in 147 athletes
147 athletes (mean age 20.1) with activity-related joint discomfort were randomized to FORTIGEL® or placebo for 24 weeks in a prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled design. Symptoms were rated by both physician and participant on a visual analogue scale. The study found a statistically significant difference in perceived joint discomfort between the FORTIGEL® and placebo groups, and a clear difference in favour of FORTIGEL® when participants also used supportive therapies such as massage, hydrotherapy and ice/heat. It was the first trial to show this effect in healthy athletes.
5 g a day: significant improvement at 6 weeks, stronger at 12
160 young, active adults with activity-related knee discomfort received 5 g FORTIGEL® or placebo daily for 12 weeks at the Institute for Sports and Sports Science. Changes in discomfort, stiffness and physical function were assessed at 6 and 12 weeks. After just 6 weeks the FORTIGEL® group showed a statistically significant improvement in all three measures; the effect persisted and was more pronounced at 12 weeks, with secondary therapies such as massage and physiotherapy substantially reduced. In more than 40% of participants discomfort was fully resolved, and a positive effect was demonstrated in 70%. Two further studies at the universities of Hamburg and Freiburg support the 5 g daily dose in healthy adults — the exact dose in every Active⁷ Joint sachet.
MRI evidence of a direct effect on cartilage tissue
In this prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study, 30 subjects with early knee cartilage changes received 10 g FORTIGEL® or placebo daily for 48 weeks. Using dGEMRIC magnetic resonance imaging at baseline, 24 and 48 weeks, researchers measured a statistically significant increase in cartilage proteoglycan density in the medial and lateral tibial regions of the FORTIGEL® group versus placebo. The result shows that orally taken specific collagen peptides have a direct, measurable effect on human cartilage tissue.
Imaging of joint surfaces in middle-aged athletes
Three middle-aged athletes with cartilage surface lesions of the knee and ankle were followed while taking 10 g FORTIGEL® per day. Serial MRI images documented recovery of the articular surfaces over the course of supplementation, adding real-world imaging support to the controlled trials above.
